Reflection on piece of work:

I chose this piece because I found the Runquist paintings to be very interesting and relevant to life and other units of this class. For example, each painting, “Development of the Arts” and “Development of the Sciences”, show the history and development of both the arts and the sciences through time. We can relate this back to Unit 8 when Beverly Jones explains how “new forms of art and technology are frequently cast in the mode of old forms” (pg.1). If you notice in the paintings and as well as real life, modern technology and art resembles that of their origins. For Example In the “Development of the Arts” painting you can see the earliest form of arts were weaving, pottery, paintings, and dyeing. Hundred of thousands of years later we can see that this type of art is still relevant in today’s society. I also chose this piece of work for my example because I am a Human Physiology major so I feel like the “Development of the Sciences” painting is relevant to my life. Especially panel 7, which has to do with progressive science at the University Level. Since this is where I am at in my life I feel almost as if I am a part of the painting, that I am helping science progress through my contributions (picture below). By engaging in the meaning and history of the Runquist paintings I have met some of the objectives listed above. In the future to help broaden my understanding of public art and its significance to the public and as well as its place in history I can search for other famous works of public art and learn about their history.
