week 9

In the presentation, Lawrence Lessig presented his opinions about the laws that choke creativity. He told three stories that state the conflict between the law and the use of technologies. For example, two famers think airplanes were trespassing their place that cause the chickens strike the wall. According to the law, airplane cannot fly without permission. So famers think the airplane against the law. Also Lawrence mentions the copyright. To sum up, when some new technologies occurs, laws are usually protect the old cultural. As Lawrence said, “Laws that choke creativity”. It’s may limit the development of the new technology. So the question is how can we maintain the old cultural and to develop the technologies by law.

  1. I think there are a lot of old laws that choke creativity. I think that as times begin to change and culture begins to change laws like this should change with the times. There is definitely somewhere in between old culture and new technology that needs to be met. I think that although it is important to alter laws to keep up with new and upcoming technology, old culture should be protected in some way so we do not completely lose our culture. That being said in Lawrence’s presentation he talks a lot about how technology such as the internet allows us to be more inventive and creative, and I think that this is an important part of our new culture.

  2. As you mentioned before,i agree with your viewpoint, there are a lot of old law which made by predecessor.these law were useful at that time, but everybody know that this society is developing all the time and there are some new things coming out every seconds.so,if old cultures always want to protect old ones,it definitely will cause some conflict between old and new.when this conflict appear, some one who get benefit from old one must to protect and against the new one.so, this is the obstacle for the social development, because, social development is a eternal law.so,i think keeping new culture to be protected is very important.

  3. Do you feel as though Laws inhibit culture or creativity or both? In my eyes I think that laws at times cannot keep up with all of the changes, mainly technological, in our society so they, at times inhibit creativity. However I believe an important aspect of culture is our past and preserving our past. Which is why I believe that many laws are important to have and to not change in order help main such a rich culture. There really is not a perfect way to create and or change laws so that everyone is happy, thats just not going to happen!
