Today morning, I went to my friend’s home met several classmates and we studied together. We are all in the same math course this term, therefore, we contributed a math study group that we can discuss the lectures we took and solve some problems that we could not understand or confused during the class. I personally think it is a very helpful and useful way for us to learn this course better. When we finished our studies, I went back home and invited some of my friends came to my house and we had a wonderful dinner in the evening, after our dinner, we sat around the table had some drink and played games. We were so happy and had a very good time spent our weekend night.

In my personal life value, I always put “family” considered as the most important part in my life. Because family is the group of members care about me most and to give me help without any conditions. No matter who I am, rich or poor, when I need help, they will always stand by my side to encourage me and give me strength. Friendship is also very important to me, a sincere and nice friendship can affect you in many positives ways as well. For example, like today, I came to my friend’s home and we studied together to discussed and helped each other solved many problems that confused us in the class. As an international students, although my family is very far away from me, however, when we were sitting together to have dinner and we chatted a lot, when I am sad, they always encourage me and we help each other not only in study but also in our current lives. We feel like a “family”, we all felt very enjoyable. I think the enjoyment is not only present having fun, but also when we were studying together, we are passionate to our studies. It is very important for a person who are doing his work or studying, I always believe that if people feel enjoyable for what they are doing, no matter how hard the work is, they will try their best to solve it and will get success. In addition, when we were studying together, it is also a personal development. Not only develop our studying skills but also a good way to develop how to communicate and exchange thoughts with others.

From my family, my parents always think “family” is most important and I agree with them. This thought has already deeply in my mind and it will go through during my whole life. My parents also think “Expertness” and “Independent” are very important. To be honest, I think although we should be independent and should respected authority in what we do. However, we are now living in a society with group working and communication. The most important thing I personally agree with is not how “expert” or “independent” you are, is how to use reliable relationships and resources to advancing win-win cooperation. For me, my goal is to become a successful man and have ability to protect my families to give them a wealthy happiness life and help my friends. To achieve this goal, now my responsibility is study hard to get my bachelor degree, then go to work, step by step, to achieve my goals and find my real life values.

In the articles “The Initial Question” and “Sorting It Out: How We Choose Our Values”, the author talks about the characteristics (unpredictability, complexity and quarrelsomeness), definitions and development of human values. There are many interesting questions and points throughout the article. For example, do we make our decisions by following instincts or personal values? In addition, the author introduces six modes to develop values – four of them are mental, while the other two are synthetic. At the same time, when people use these modes to arrive at their own values, they have already chosen a value – a personal evaluation and belief. It means that they believe a certain way of developing personal values is better than the other ones All of these questions and ideas are interesting and worthy thinking for a long time. Personally, I agree with one point from the author the most, which is “personal values matter a great deal. Without them, we cannot live at all, for they are just as essential as air, food and water, and protection from the elements” (Lewis 18).

As the author states, the term “values” should be synonymous with personal evaluations and related beliefs especially those about the “good”, and “just”, and the “beautiful” that propel people to action, to a particular kind of behavior and life (Lewis 7). In other words, personal values determine the kind of life a personal lives. For example, if a person values money more than lives, he or she most likely become a robber and a murder in order to get enough money to live. On the other hand, if a person values the sense of achievement and hard work, he or she will find a competitive job, work hard and earn satisfactory salary. These are for individuals. Speaking on the national scale, if the decision-maker values education, the schools will receive more funds and children will have better studying environment. However, if the he or she values military and conquest, the military force of the country will likely be strong and war may happen. Therefore, perosnal values are essential to choose, and the necessity of studying personal value choices is important to be recognized.
