Definitely, the best chalks available in the US is Hagoromo, which can be easily obtained from Amazon. For color chalks, regular and luminous ones are both available.

For similar types of chalks, Nihon Rikagaku’s ones are not that bad, but compared to Hagoromo, their quality is under Hagormomo. Those are thicker as Hagoromo, so the chack is hard to be broken, but it is not written smoothly on blackboards. Moreover, it is shorter than a Hagoromo one.
For standard thickness and length, Prang’s ones are good. Those are actually good chalks, and the headquarter also owns Omyacolor brand, which is also one of the popular chalk brands in South Korea together with Hagoromo.

Those are thinner, so if you use too much power when you write, then it can be broken easily. In this regard, it would be good to have some chalk cases. Avoid cheap plastic/aluminum chalk cases, which are not good. Koh-I-Noor’s ones are great, which can be found in the following link.

Chalks should be avoided: I know that Crayola is very popular in any classrooms, but those are very bad (even dustless ones). I do not prefer Crayola. Nowadays, Zezut’s ones are available, which are thicker but cheaper chalks. However, the quality is pretty same with Crayola, and I do not recommend those.
For Chalk Erasers: Felt erasers are very common in the US, and those are good because it is very easy to dust them. However, the performance is not that good. For cheaper options, you can just get many microfiber clothes, and use them for erasing chalkboards. You can wash it after the use, and the performance is great. Also, you can get some microfiber chalkboard erasers easily from Amazon, but those are usually smaller. Hagoromo’s microfiber ones are available with magnetic, but I always feel that those are too expensive.
Good ones are Huntz’s, but unfortunately, the purchase options only for erasers are not available now (Nov 16, 2024). However, those are the best chalk erasers available in the US.

Just be careful to wash/dust them before the chalk residue build-up on the clothes.
