This noon, I ate outside with my parents in a cafe which located in the downtown in my hometown. I took notes on my cell phone when we still waited for food and during our lunch time.
The first person was a little girl. Actually, I did not pay attention to this little girl at first, but she started talking to me and caught my attention very well about her adornment. She worn a Disney T-shirt with a lot of flowers, and it has a lot of light and bright colors, such as yellow, and red. She also had a beautiful white pleated skirt, and a shining sandal. She told me that her grandma sent her those pretty clothes and sandal as a gift for her birthday. After that, she danced for me. She had a black long straight hair and decorated by bobby pins. The assumption that I made to her is that she seemed like 5 or 6 years old, because those aged girls really like shining things and she obvious is a Chinese. I think she is a really happy girl that has a lot of love from parents, grandparents. She can dance well, then, I think she might learn how to dance during this summer in some training center.
The second person that I noticed was a male that sat alone by himself. He looked differently from other people, and he seemed do not get involved with the food and drink. He wore a white shirt and black pant, and he wore a golden watch and a pair of glasses, he got into the cafe almost the same time as me. He then chose to sit close to the window and spend much time look outside. As for the rest of time, he texted and called somebody. He ordered two cup of juice, one pasta, and one steak. I think he might wait for a female, because he brought a pink bag with him and it seemed like a gift. He did not stop texting or calling, so he might had an argument with that female. Based on his appearance, I assume that his age may around 30 to 40, and he was a successful male who maybe wait for his wife and hoped his wife can come and accept the gifts he chose for her.
The third person I noted was a female who sat next to me and ordered a cup of coffee in English by saying the word “latte”, not in Chinese. I was surprised by hearing English in my hometown, because it is really a small city in China. She had little curly and brown hair. She was tall and thin. The thing that surprised me was that she wore a white t-shirt that was from American Eagle, and also, she wore brown flats. I feel that her values are a little bit similar as me, I do like to wear t-shirt and flats in summer, and I did curly my hair and changed my hair to brown, although I may not order food in English in my hometown. The assumption that I made to her is that she might be the same age as me (around 20), and she might be an abroad student who study in America, because what she wore is very American style, it was casual. I think she may have a lot of freedom in daily life that she can do a lot of thing individually.

I have read your article describes what you get according to observation. The description refers to many detailed information, which proves that you observes carefully. I believe that the observation of the three people is objective, but I do not the assumption is objective enough.
The assumption of you reflects some of your belief and values. For example, you assume the girl is 5 or 6 because of the shining adornment, which can prove that you thinks that children tend to be more favor of bright color. And you assume the man is a successful male according to his appearance, which can prove that you thinks that the successful people look more decent than the common people. And you think the male is texting a female, and you also assume the female is his wife. This proves that you think the female who has close relation to a male, the female tends to the male’s wife, instead of girlfriend, sister and so on. Your observation is objective, but I think the article is better if you make some comment to you values and beliefs according to the assumption. Great work!

I was interested in your adornment descriptions because you are located in China and I thought this was really interesting because it might be different than here in the United States. The little girl sounded really cute and happy. She seemed loved and very outgoing. You’re second person made me sad! I hate seeing people sit alone in public, especially if they’re older. I found this person really interesting because the way you described it seemed odd and made me want to know what was really going on! I thought maybe he decided to get a bite to eat before he went somewhere to drop off the present he had. Overall, the different cultures between the United States and China didn’t seem that different. If you had said China, I would’ve just assumed you were in America. The second and third people you described seemed content I think. You did a good job at describing all of them.

I just want to tell you the truth that I am in China right now, that’s why I want to take web course which is more convenient for me to stay with my family and still focus on study meanwhile. Is that surprised you? haha.. I would like to say, American style and Chinese Style in people’s dressing are different and sometimes it is obvious for me realize. It is very interesting to observe different people in public, I do hate people sit alone in public; however, sometimes people do need some space to think something, it might help them have their own ideas without bothering by others. But what I found in America is that people do enjoy staying with friends, and spend time with each other.

Good post. I was very interested in the way you described people especially the girl in your first paragraph. She seems like she is really an outgoing person. I do not know many girls who would walk up and talk to someone as well as dance for them. I’m curious what type of dancing she did as a six year old to make you assume that she took dancing lessons, must have been pretty interesting. Another cool thing that you talked about was the lady who ordered the cup of coffee in English. I would love to visit China, specifically the smaller country side part of it. Why do you think the lady was visiting? Travel always interests me and I love to hear about all these unknown places around the world
