Lane County community members gather near downtown Eugene for the Winter Farmers Market. Local farmers meet here on Saturdays and offer fresh produce and other healthy options for locals to buy
Julia Findon, co-owner of Yep Yep Farms, looks on as families walk by her booth, which is filled with freshly picked lettuce and other produce. This is her second year participating in the local Farmers Market.
Kris Dicus of Groundwork Organics, shown exchanging produce with a customer, has been farming since he first moved to Oregon in the late 90’s. Since then his passion and love for farming and serving fresh food to the community has continuously grown.
The Lane County SNAP program, partnered with the Farmers Market and Trillium Community Health Plan, allows community members with food stamps to cash in their stamps, in exchange for these tokens. These tokens can only be used at the Farmers Market, which helps to encourage community members to eat healthier options.
Carol Richardson, in blue, stands in front of her booth while talking to a customer about the important role farmers play in the food industry, as well as the politics connected to farming. Her son Jacob Richardson stands in the back adjusting a price tag on one of their crates before preparing to pack up and head home.
