Assignment :
Argument of Lawrence Lessig video on Ted Talks “Laws that choke creativity” is the new 20th century culture that technology is bringing is a read only not read and write, in other words the young generation are not actually creating a new thing but remixing and presenting a new massage. I understand his opinion that today’s technology helps us store information and present this information, however because of this large amount of information people tend to forget how to be more creative than before. I do believe the old knowledge and traditional culture are rich enough for us to learn and look at in different perspectives. I believe that laws and regulations limit people’s expressions but, they cannot limit an individual’s imagination. How many steps exist between imagination and expression?
Reflection:
After finished this assignment, I was suddenly resized that technologies has brought us this far, I start to think about my everyday life, especially the school life. I read my assignment readings with Ipad, I download more than ten articles or course readings every week . I am sending ten emails everyday. I am one of the people who don’t really care how do we use information, how to read and write. Most of the information I read is from website, which means the information is not under anyone’s control. I download articles without paying, I read information without knowing the author. I believe everyone enjoy the efficiency. However, this cause the copyright.”Under current copyright laws, anyone with the intent to remix an existing work is liable for lawsuit because copyright laws protect the intellectual property of the work. However, current copyright laws are proving to be ineffective at preventing sampling (as well as other forms of piracy) of intellectual propertyI thought the issues by standing on creator’s side. The copying works absolutely create angers to creator. However, the creators have a nothing to do for protection of their original contents because the flow of information becomes the common phenomenon in this culture. In some point, copyright law should be conducted strictly to protect creator’s property” (Johnsen).
I started to think about how to be more creative in today’s environment. I think firstly we should be active, active thinking and active learning. After we read something, maybe we should ask questions and try to challenge the ideas instead of just give comments.
Future:
The first thing I thought is to be more creative toward works, instead of carelessly download may information everyday, I will be more well planed about what I read and pay attention to the author, I think this will be fun and worth to do.
