“Understanding ‘Medium’ in the Context of the
Media Ecology Intellectual Tradition”

Lance Strate’s research focuses on media ecology, media history and futurism, the impact of new  technological innovation and socio-cultural change, especially relationships between media and conceptions of space, time, religion, and culture. He is author of Amazing Ourselves to Death: Neil Postman’s Brave New World Revisited (Peter Lang, 2014); The Medium is the Muse: Channeling Marshall McLuhan (NeoPoiesis Press, 2014); On the Binding Biases of Time and Other Essays on General Semantics and Media Ecology (Institute of General Semantics, 2011); and Echoes and Reflections: On Media Ecology as a Field of Study (Hampton Press, 2006). Strate is on the editorial board of The Journal of Applied Communication Research, Qualitative Research Reports, and Razón y Palabra. He serves on the National Advisory Board of the Walter Ong Center at Saint Louis University and has served as President of the New York State Communication Association (NYCSCA).  Strate is one of the founders of the Media Ecology Association and served as the organization’s President for a decade until 2008.
