“After the Internet”

Vincent Mosco’s research interests include the political economy of communication, the social impacts of information technology, and communication policy. Dr. Mosco is the author of numerous books including The Digital Sublime: Myth, Power, and Cyberspace (MIT Press, 2004) which won the 2005 Olson Award for outstanding book in the field of rhetoric and cultural studies and The Political Economy of Communication (2nd ed., Sage, 2009). His most recent book To the Cloud: Big Data in a Turbulent World (Paradigm Pub.), was named a 2014 Outstanding Academic Title by Choice: Current Reviews for Academic Libraries. A founding member of the Union for Democratic Communication, Dr. Mosco has held research positions with the White House Office of Telecommunications Policy, the Congressional Office of Technology Assessment, and the National Research Council,  as well as in Canada with the federal Department of Communication. At Queen’s University, he was head of the Department of Sociology and held the Canada Research Chair in Communication and Society. In 2014 the Cultural and Critical Studies Division of AEJMC presented him and his partner Catherine McKercher with the Professional Freedom and Responsibility Award for outstanding achievement in research and activism. He is currently working on a book tentatively titled Come Alive! The Next Internet.
