“Issues Without Media?: On Some Material Controversies in Digital Societies”
SATURDAY, APRIL 16 • 12:30p

Noortje Marres’ work investigates intersections between technology, knowledge, engagement, and environments, and is especially concerned with understanding moments and processes of issue formation. I have a background in the social studies of science and technology (STS), and much of my empirical research deals with the role of objects and devices in participation, with a focus on environmental issues such as climate change and sustainable living. My second main interest is digital social research, in particular the development of digital methods and tools of controversy analysis and issue mapping online. My earlier work brought STS into conversation with political theory, especially pragmatism, and I continue to work on issues of democracy in technological societies.
