A scavenger hunt across Copenhagen kicks off day 3 and I teamed up with Aliza to hunt down the Finnish embassy, the best cinnamon roll in Denmark, and capturing the hygge of the Danish. Hygge, as defined in a window on Nyhavn, is “a complete absence of anything annoying or emotionally overwhelming; taking pleasure from the presence of gentle, soothing” and the last word was covered up. A squeaky dinosaur dog toy accompanied us on the journey and made it into (almost) every picture. We scavenged for a few other items and ended up exploring new parts of the city.
This day also included watching the United States Women beat the Netherlands 2-0 in the World Cup Final! We went to a bar called BRUS to watch the match and it was packed with both Dutch and American fans.
I later met up with some friends studying at DIS from the UO and we went and saw a jazz show at the Nemoland stage at Christiania. The Copenhagen Jazz Festival is going on all week and there are hundreds of venues with shows going on every night. It was refreshing to see Sophie and Otto, a few faces I know from home in an environment far from it. I got to here their experiences in Copenhagen so far, as well as see where they are living. This has made it even easier for me to adjust to Copenhagen life before I come back for the fall term with DIS.
Biking to and from Christiania, I did not even look at a map and easily found my way. I am already starting to feel the ease of biking in a city that is designed for them and it helps that I have knack for which direction I am going.
