The Vulnerability project

Our first preview!

We are a group of students from the Student Health Advisory Committee (SHAC). In the Fall Term of 2019, we were discussing ways to create a collaborative environment where students could discuss mental health and wellbeing. This is when the Vulnerability Project was created. Vulnerability is something everyone experiences when it comes to mental health and wellness. To us, vulnerability means empowering ourselves to be open with others, even when we are hesitant to convey our emotions.

This blog is a safe space to laugh, cry, empathize, and express yourself openly and anonymously.

In our first preview, we’d like to show you some of the submissions that have already come in for the Vulnerability project! These submissions reflect a variety of ways to understand vulnerability. Take some time to reflect on the meaning for yourself, and email uovulnerability@gmail.com with your own submissions!

 Warmly,

Laura, Sydney, Faryn, Natalie, and Aisha

Reflections on Hotel Art

While the paintings in a hotel room are usually the last thing we pay attention to, I’ve found them to be quite comforting over these last few months. Whether a picture of a river or a modern piece of circles and squiggles, they remind me to not take everything at face value. I think the same can be said for vulnerability – when we are choosing to be vulnerable and open with others, we are choosing to move beyond the facade of a conventional landscape painting.

Helicopter Ride in Paradise

This photo represents vulnerability because I am scared of heights, and the experience was very stressful, intimidating, but amazing all at the same time — Anonymous

In a couple weeks, we’ll come out with our second preview! Email submissions to uovulnerability@gmail.com.
