About the Visualization Lab (VizLab)

My name is Theodore Harrison, I am the current Visualization Lab (VizLab) Specialist for the AY: 2019-20. Welcome to the brand new VizLab blog on the University of Oregon Blog Sites. The (VizLab) is part of the Price Science Commons Libary (PSC) at the University of Oregon.
The University of Oregon’s Presidential Fund for Excellence provides funding for the University of Oregon to make strategic investments in initiatives and priorities focused on achieving the university’s mission. The VizLab supports one of the fund’s first initiatives, the Presidential Initiative in Data Science, which seeks to ramp up the university’s ability to analyze data and extract information about trends and populations, the university is responding to an increased demand across nearly all scholarly disciplines, and society as a whole. The VizLab is available for UO faculty and GTFs, and others with data visualization needs or who need to use a large, high-resolution video wall (VizWall).
The VizWall is comprised of 24 High Definition displays tiled and connected to create a 50-million-pixel screen. Examples of some use-cases might be to create or view a visual representation of large data sets; to view materials which when blown up for visibility are too large for a conventional monitor; to videoconference with other sites, or to display multiple large images side by side.
Because the use cases and possible software needs for this space, which was designed to be used for both research and instructional purposes, could be complex, reservations for the room are moderated and require some lead time.
