What is SER? The Society for Ecological Restoration (SER) is a non-profit organization with a global network of scientists and restoration practitioners dedicated to advancing the science, policy, and practice of ecological restoration to sustain biodiversity, improve resilience in a changing climate, and re-establish an ecologically healthy relationship between nature and culture. We are an official student chapter of SER since fall 2020. As part of SER, our student members can participate in international and regional SER conferences, subscribe to the Restoration Ecology journal, and connect to the SER network.
Mission/Purpose statement: to provide hands-on experience for graduate and undergraduate students to learn about restoration ecology while engaging with local restoration practitioners.
Organization Goals:
- Provide leadership & networking opportunities for students
- Build relationships with local restoration partners
- Foster collaborative/translational applied research
- Participate in local volunteer events related to restoration
- Attend conferences and events related to restoration
Types of events the organization will host:
- Host speaker series of restoration practitioners
- Field trips to local restoration sites + nurseries
- Host community outreach activities
- Roundtable with OSU students to share restoration related research
