Artifact 8: Creative Spirituality

Objectives

  • Become familiar with how spirituality influences artists
  • Discuss the differences between spirituality and religion
  • Examine Spirituality as a generative force and a well spring for creativity

Original Post:

  1. How I would define spirituality is that it is something that everyone has that comes from his or her inner spirit. I believe that spirituality is something that people live by. People that are spiritual often live by the faith of their deepest values and meanings. Spirituality is an envision of an inner path that people follow that helps them realize the essence of their own well-being
  2. To display an overall difference between spirituality and religion, I would have to say that religion is more based on a group or community that believe in the same thing. Religion often deals more with the people that are included with that same belief or those who are not. Religion does a lot more with different institutions and the talk of religion deals with God. Dealing more with loyalty and rules is what religion is often based off of. On the other hand, spirituality deals more with compassion and often loyalty to justice.
  3. Creativity in my own words is an imagination or an addition to an original idea that is put to use. People use it in their everyday life whether it is put into a piece of art or even just a new idea within a conversation between two people. Creativity is often used to solve problems, communicating with others, and entertaining others and us. It can be considered something is added on to something else, because it takes creativity to add on to an additional art piece.
  4. I believe creativity comes from every individual’s piece of mind. It comes from what we see throughout the day and what we interpret to be creative. When we create something creative, it often comes from what we choose to see throughout the day and use it as a based idea. To relate it back to artist, many artists often find creativity through either their own imagination or even their own surroundings. Living by a certain surrounding day in and day out will influence a person in a type of way that will give them creativity about that particular surrounding.

Reflection

I chose this as my  artifact of my portfolio because I am a big believer in spirituality already as it is even before this class. I feel as if this artifact will make my portfolio strong and will be able to voice my opinion throughout. It is a good way for a viewer to understand the type of person I am and the types of values and beliefs that I may hold. This artifact also has knowledge of personal experience from the past along with knowledge after reading through different articles for this particular assignment. This response helps people understand who I am and what interest I have towards this particular issue.

I also chose this artifact because it seemed to be a hot topic for comments throughout the whole class. Spirituatlity and Religion are both common subjects that is great for individual beliefs. Because it is such a good topic of discussion, I was able to further educate myself of this subject due to the various comments and responses that I had read from previous classmates.

Future Goals:

One goal that I have for the future of this particular topic is to just further educate myself on both sides of the conversation. Being able to distinguish fully between spirituality and religion will help me understand them both from a different perspective. Being capable of understanding both sides of this conversation will help me rediscover the subject at hand.
