Artifact 6: Creative Spiritual

Objectives:

  • Understand the spiritual influence on artists
  • Discuss the differences between spirituality and religion

Reflection:

For me, the spirituality is the way you think about the outside, and a person’s personality shows the spirituality. We usually say that a person has a spirit because we see or feel that people beyond the language and logic. I believe that spirituality is one of the important qualities of an artist. Grey states in the article, “the artist’s three eyes of knowing are inspired by the radiant spiritual beauty of the subject, fascinated by the subject’s harmonic structure, and motivated to express the unique wholeness of he subject by drawing a bounding line around it.” (P. 73) I believe that one of the purpose an artist creates art work is to inspire people, so it is hard to say that an artist without spirituality could create a piece of art having powerful influences.

The religion is what people believe in, Religion may come from the outside. For example, a person may believe in Christ because of his/her parents or friends. It reflects how the outside influences you. Spirituality is more like the way you think about the outside, and it is spontaneous. Here is a video interviewing the Steve Taylor who is a British author, and he explained the difference between religion and spirituality.

In the future:

Since I have learnt the spirituality, I realize the importance of spirituality. I will keep learning and pay attention on developing the spiritual influence on me.
