In the Moment

A “Galentine’s Day” community event helped residents relax during a stressful week of midterms. The students who organized the event provided food, face masks, and nail polish. The night was topped off with a viewing of The Bachelor.

Students gather in a social lounge in the Global Scholars Hall to celebrate “Galentine’s Day” on February 13th, 2017. Maya Auld, kneeling center, organized the relaxing event to help her classmates unwind after a stressful week of exams. Participants could pamper themselves by picking their own face masks, painting their nails, eating sweet treats, and watching The Bachelor. Auld said, “I hope that this event fosters a sense of community. Many people feel lonely on Valentine’s Day so I hope that everyone who comes feels included in this space.”

Maya Auld closes her eyes and soaks up the cool sensation of her face mask. Auld has two midterm exams this week so she is fully enjoying this brief moment of relaxation. “I never get to do anything like this for myself,” she commented.

Maya Auld, left, and Spencer Wilhelmy laugh at the funny appearance of Auld’s face mask. According to Wilhelmy, the mask was deceptively difficult to put on because it was very slippery. Wilhelmy is good friends with Auld and said that she is always looking out for her friends and deserved to take time for herself.

Maya Auld gives herself an elegant manicure. Auld went with members of the Global Scholars Hall Government to buy all of the supplies to make “Galentine’s Day” fun and successful. Auld revealed that she has a passion for doing nails because it helps clear her mind.

From left, Laura Grigorieff, Nicole Panet-Raymond, and Alexus Hemphill laugh at each other’s choice of face mask. All three thanked Auld for organizing this fun community event. Grigorieff said that she loves living in the Global Scholars Hall because the community supports and truly cares for one another.
