Auditions and Volunteer Opportunities
University Theatre Auditions:
AUDITIONS on Wednesday evening, October 7, between 5pm and 7pm– for PERSONAL GAME (personae ludum), a live theatre experience inspired by MFA candidate Ashley Baker’s costume designs. This unusual project will feature performers in costumes which abstractly express different paths people take in adapting themselves for role-playing games. The performances will be 15 minute events, three or four times per evening, for 12 socially distanced audience members, in the Hope Theatre. There is no text, so acting in its traditional sense is not required. We are looking for a wide range of body types, and there are no gender requirements. Some performers should be able to move in unusual ways. This will be a full spectacle emphasizing what design can do – in addition to Ashley Baker’s costumes will be lighting by Janet Rose, set design by Jerry Hooker, projection design by Bradley Branam, and an original score by music professor Brian McWhorter.
Auditions will be by individual 5-minute appointments in the Robinson Theatre. Auditions are open to all UO students. Those auditioning should be prepared only to follow some simple instructions in movement, and perhaps to answer a few questions. Auditioners should wear protective masks and expect to follow strict timing so as to keep everyone safely socially distanced. (Please do not show up more than 10 minutes prior to your appointment.)
NOTE: due to the unusual nature of this project, we will be casting only those who can be on campus for at least three appointments in our costume shop, Fall term, before Thanksgiving. These appointments will be for measurements and fittings. Additional fittings will occur during the first week of Winter term. Rehearsals will start in the second week of January, 5 evenings per week – rehearsals will be for two weeks prior to technical rehearsals. Performances are at the end of January, early February.
