I have created a plethora of entry points to enter the politically engaging and humorous art world of Mark Jenkins Tape Sculptures.

I. Explore PlaceStories.com to discover the 72 interactive postcards from around the globe. Each postcard features an image of a tape sculpture, location, and date.

Many of the postcards also feature notable quotes from books or from the interview I conducted with Mark in late November of 2013. Also, many postcards feature short films: one is from the persepctive of a middle school art teacher, utlizing Mark’s art as a way to inspire her students, one is a Discovery Channel short narrated from the perspective of The Blond Girl, another is a montage of tape sculptures, and others explore actors (the people on the streets) reactions to his pieces. The following films are especially noteworthy:

1.  ArtMap.Tv Interview with Mark Jenkins in Rome, Italy, 2012

2. Gestalten Space (the publishers of The Urban Theater, Mark Jenkins book) tour of his first solo exhibition in Berlin at the Gestalten Gallery in 2012.

3. Discovery Channel Short Film, narrated from the perspective of The Blond Girl, 2008.

II. On November 22nd, 2013, I conducted a two hour phone interview with Mark Jenkins; this is a transmedia resource I was particularly interested in pursuing because direct communication, and dialogue, is a powerful way to learn about artist intention and reaction. It was an incredibly valuable experience. Pieces of the interview have been dispersed throughout the PlaceStory postcards; however, a full transcript can be accessed here.

III. I also researched published texts that mention, or feature, Mark Jenkins work. I was interested in exploring the world of print via a transmedia lens because, like the phone interview, it is a medium of communication that is not necessarily associated with the modern concept of “transmedia.” Here are the published texts where you can find Mark Jenkins.

IV. In honor of Mark Jenkins Tape Sculptures, I created a Tape Sculpture of a Field Guide. There is only one page in my field guide featuring two QR codes, one will link the user to this website, and the other will link the user to the PlaceStories website. As a method of humorously combing all of my research, work, creativity, and inspirintion, I felt a Tape Sculpture of a Field Guide (existing in physical “analogue” reality) but containing only web-bridge QR codes (digital information) would be an interesting way to truly modify and mold the concept of transmedia field guides.

  1. I think this is really helpful information. I also started by gathering the required paperwork and writing a personal statement since I believe it’s essential to be well-prepared for the interview. I must produce a fantastic piece of writing, and a qualified personal statement writing agency helped me. I made an excellent decision when I tried this.
