Value List

Today, I called my parents and talked about 20 minutes over the phone, took vitamin pills, came to the library to study with my friends, and saved some money by having lunch at home. All these activities I pursued are related to the value list I ordered. By calling my parents, I check on them and have conversation with them to spend time with my family. I care about my health by taking vitamin pills daily. I come to library to study with my friends for my personal accomplishment in school and for friendship. I have lunch at home to save my wealth.

“Do your best in a given circumstance” is my family motto. With this, my belief pattern goes that I would accomplish if I do my best no matter what situation I am in. One time, I was struggling with passing a Biology class. Even though I put my best efforts onto the class, I was not able to earn a higher grade. In this specific case, my belief pattern was not valid. I would like to have my own business and make it successful for my own personal accomplishment and also in a way of wealth. I would need to not only do my best but also find my own way of doing things to make it successful.

Reflection:

From this assessment, I have learned many things. First, I never tracked back what I have done. But by doing so through this assessment, I realized that I value my family as the number one priority. I knew that I think my family is really important in my life but I never thought that I was doing something for them (well not for them, but doing it to make them happy!). I also realized that I care about myself without consciousness. I do not take vitamin pills and other supplements by thinking I need to take it; I just take it when it is there.

With the nature of human values, I was born and raised with listening that doing my best will lead you to a better way from my parents. With my family motto that I have been following, the nature of my own values have been built up in my mind, and the mindset came out of me by taking this assessment. In the reading, the author says “Perhaps we are not driven by immutable instincts. But we might still be controlled by the influence of genes on our underlying personality or, alternatively, by peer pressure, by the relentless demands of the society in which we happen to live.” (Page 8)

Future goals:

I would like to continue to do my best until I achieve my final personal accomplishment, which I become a successful person (here, the successful means that I become able to support my family and more). I will continue to value my family as my number one priority and keep supporting them until the end. In the reading, it says “Although the term values often used loosely, it should be synonymous with personal evaluations and related beliefs, especially personal evaluations and related beliefs about the “good,” the “just,” and the “beautiful,” personal evaluations and beliefs that propel us to action, to a particular kind of behavior and life.” (Page 7) Thus, I would continue to keep my prioritized values that I figured out from this assessment, which are Family, Health, Personal Accomplishment, Wealth, and Friends, which are my values that are synonymous with my personal evaluations and related beliefs of mine.
