As seen in the first map, which maps the locations of the cholera-related deaths on campus, there were two heavily concentrated areas that could have possibly been sources of the outbreak. One of the areas was just north of East 13th Avenue and west of the Columbia building in a high foot-traffic area on every weekday. The other area was surrounding the Rec Center on the northwestern corner, ranging all the way south to closer to MacArthur Court, and even a bit north of East 15th Avenue into the park with pathways, also a very high foot-traffic area on weekdays. With these two locations in mind, we took to analyzing the data collected as seen in the map of the locations of the tweets, and the density of the tweets. At first glance, the data is obviously a bit more scattered than in the map of locations of deaths, however, this makes sense considering that there were a lot less data points collected for the maps of tweets than for the publicly-viewed data for the map of locations of deaths. Despite being more sporadic, the map of the locations of tweets still showed one area of concentration where the points appeared to be correlated – the northwestern corner of the outside of the Rec Center, or the corner of East 15th Avenue and University Street. After looking at the map of density of tweets, it became clear that this location was confirmed to be the most active for cholera-related deaths and tweets from the data that our group collected.

But still, we had to look closer at all forms of the data we had collected. Some of the tweets near or inside the Rec Center were very informative – for example, @TaylorDoose1 tweeted, “Locker room showers in the SRC are closed to try and stop cholera infection.#uocholeraexercise“, and @CTWivian tweeted, “People are dying outside the Rec Center #uocholeraexercise“. After considering all the data that we have collected through tweets and locations of deaths, we can conclude that the source of the cholera outbreak is inside the water system in the Rec Center.
