Unit 3

For me, art is what once you have sense of feeling and strong urge to show their deepest inner feelings and thoughts in various ways (music, painting, movies, novels, etc.). Appreciator of art sympathy, touched and inspired, and even changes their own ideas and worldview by watching listening to these works, such works of art reached convey their effect and infect others. Furthermore, everyone is artist in life because people has feeling to things and has desire to express him or herself. It doesn’t matter which way you choose to express your feeling, the important matter is whether the feeling and thoughts are from your inside. I always agree that art is from your inside and everyone could be an artist, the article proves “There, while there is no abstract concept of “art” everyone may be an artist-decorating their bodies and possessions, dancing, singing, versifying, performing-even when some person are acknowledged as being more talented or skillful than others.” (Page 21) On the other side, art is simple and unsophisticated, however, art is misinterpreted or used by some people to boost their personal benefits. For example, in order to be well known, some painter exaggeratedly advocate their work by using inscrutable action to attract public which not only make public misunderstand art but also mystify. Also this kind of art worker gives publics a point of view that artists are strange. In fact, art is hard to understand, and sometimes you barely know what the author is trying to say. However, art is about life, so everyone has right to image it as long as you are sincere to art.

  1. The topic for the section is about art. What is art? Shelly defines art into what once you have sense of feeling and strong urge to show their deepest inner feelings and thoughts in various ways (music, painting, movies, novels, etc.)(Shelly’s blog, unit 3). She then states that everyone is artist in life and everyone has the right to create art. After that, she mentioned that art is misinterpreted by some people nowadays. Based on Shelly’s point of view, the whole article is completed. However, if there are more evidence to support Shelly’s opinion, it might be stronger. For example, Shelly uses a quote “There, while there is no abstract concept of “art”…as being more talented or skillful than others” to support the opinion about art is from your inside and everyone can be an artist. But there is a quote in the article says “art is not confined to a small colcric of geniuses, visionaries, cranks, and charlatans-indistingushable from one another-but is instead a fundamental human species characteristic that demands and deserves to be promoted and nourished. Art like activities exist in all societies and all walks of life (Page 26), which can help Shelly’s opinion to be stronger and persuasive. That is to support, everyone can be an artist and it is not required to be genius, but in general, everyone is artist. Overall, Shelly’s article is very completed, but if using more stronger quote, the whole article would be more convinced to readers.

    • Hi, Yiran
Thank you very much for commending and discussion with me on the topic of art. I appreciate your idea that it will be stronger if I quote more , in order to prove the idea that every people can be an artist. By quoting more information, the idea will be more convincing for the readers. However, besides citing the anthropologist’s work and words, it is very important for us to put forward our ideas and understanding with our own words. For example, as for the article of “art”, we should not only cite my word about art, we should also make some detailed introduction of our understanding of art. And citing other anthropologists’ words to prove our understanding is also very important. Moreover, we can also raise some question about art to make the readers consider together with us. I do not think I can only cite more words of mine to make the idea which art appear in our daily life here and there so that not only genius can create art, everybody can create art in our daily life stronger. All in all, I appreciate your idea that stronger quote will make the article more convincing, but I do not think citing is the only way to make the article convincing. Introducing my idea and quoting others opinions and raising questions are good methods to make an article convincing as well.

      Shelly
