“In 1621, the Plymouth colonists and Wampanoag Indians shared an autumn harvest feast that is acknowledged today as one of the first Thanksgiving celebrations in the colonies. ” For 2+ decades individual colonies celebrated Thanksgiving within their colony and state, until 1863 during the civil war. Summary Thanksgiving 2017 :
The one interview that stood out to me the most is of my Aunts family friend Hollie. When asked, “Why willingly travel from Denver, CO. to Roseburg, OR. to cook and serve dinner to a family you just met?” Hollie answered, “Since I am retired, and all of my family has died off, I no longer have anyone to cook for. I have been visiting old friends in my spare time.” Her and my Aunt Yvonne live far apart and seldom get to see one another, like my family seldom gets to spend time with Yvonne. This small reunion was our chance to expand our traditional kinship group and welcome in a lovely family friend, sharing our time with our loved one (Yvonne) who brought us all together this fine Thanksgiving 2017. My Aunt on the other hand, sought the opportunity to be with loved ones due to the recent Sonoma Ca. fire that destroyed her son’s my cousins home. Life is unexpected and short, why cherish material goods, when you should cherish the life of yourself and everyone you love?
