Acceptance Remarks

I am Chris Esparza, mentioned by Jennifer a moment ago.  I currently serve as the director of Diversity, Inclusion and Leadership Development at the School of Law. I got involved with the UO Leadership Academy because it aligned with so much of my work as a leadership educator, and because it aligned with so much of my passion for shared, co-created learning experiences. But today, I am struck by both the failures and opportunities of leadership education up to the present moment—and the need to re-think the relationship of leaders, followers, and context in order to more explicitly address dynamics of power, hierarchy, trust, accountability, and justice.  I believe the UO Leadership Academy can be part of that shift for this campus.
