Demolition and excavation continued over the past couple of weeks. The wall between the Science Library and the Klamath computing labs has been demolished! It’s nice to see that the “hole in the wall” project has finally come to pass. Phase II of the PSC construction project opened at 9:00 Monday morning, September 28. By 10:00 am students working in all of the group study rooms. Construction crews are working hard to finish up phase II by the time school starts. A little over a third of the book collection has been moved into the beautiful new shelving area. We’re moving the books backwards so we can adjust shelves as we go. The shifting of books into the new PSC collections space is now in full swing! Here are some pictures of the first book trucks moving into the new space, the first books going onto the shelves, and the bamboo end panels that were installed on the shelves this week.
We are set to complete Phase II of construction by the time school starts in the fall. Phase II includes the large and small group study rooms, the quiet study room, the book stacks, and the department study rooms. Shelving units are being assembled this week. Also, dry-walling the departmental study rooms is nearly complete. It’s so exciting to see the space take shape! The photos on the next page show one of the departmental study rooms, the Human Physiology department room, and the shelving installation.
This week study room walls were framed, dry walls were installed in some study rooms, carpeting continued in the book area, and major headway was made on strengthening the plaza.
