Price Science Commons Update: First Week of Construction

  • Student workers filled 1000 (!)  boxes with journals which will be moved into Fenton
  • Construction of the temporary circulation desk has begun
  • Many book shelves taken down. These will be donated to 4J Schools
  • Books are being moved from the west side of the library to the east side as journals are removed from the east stacks
  • Journals were removed from the area behind the circulation desk and moved to Knight (last week)
  • Anderson construction began building temporary staff offices in this area which is about 50% built out so far
  • Temporary walls to close off the phase 2 construction area are going up
  • Systems staff removed and rearranged approximately 16 of our public workstations and relocated our ILL operation to the Fenton building
  • Students from the Knight and from Science Libraries have collectively worked approximately 200 hours this week: boxing books, shifting books, moving tables, and clearing out spaces as construction moves as well as “other duties as assigned.”
