Proposal: to create an exhaustive atlas of the fictional world of Eorzea.
When I was younger my family used to have a set of World Book encyclopaedias. This set also included a large world atlas. I remember looking at the pictures, seeing how the geography of the world and all its regions fit together and being fascinated by it. I developed a love of books, one that hasn’t disappeared, but has faded out of lack of time for pleasure reading. Even when my love of games began, I still read. I was the only child I knew who actually read the instruction manual for every game before playing. I would buy the strategy guides and admire the time and effort it took to curate the knowledge within. It is from this that my field guide idea has been born.
I propose to create as exhaustive an atlas as I can for the fictional world of Eorzea, the setting for Final Fantasy XIV and A Realm Reborn. Using first-hand experience within the world, and using online resources, I will map out the world, showing how the regions connect to one another using explicit and extrapolated data, as well as attempting to utilise census and bestiary data to show the populations of each area as well.
The produced piece should end up something akin to a coffee table book with all the relevant data presented in (hopefully) full-colour print. I would also hope to provide a listing of links to the music heard in each area, hosted on YouTube or Vimeo.
