Behold, his mighty hand…

I’ve just finished reading a post about the movie – and the background story on the novel – “Ben-Hur”. The author’s point was that this movie was a techno-pop blockbuster of it’s day with exciting, glamorous folks and wild chariot races – but it was really supposed to be about Jesus.  The novel had a different emphasis than the movie – to put it lightly.  But we (the movie lovers) may not have known just how much.

On this Easter Sunday, that message appealed to me as I was just thinking a little earlier about how I grew up watching “The Ten Commandments” every year on Easter.  It took me years to realize all that movie was really about and how it explained Passover.  As a kid, I thought it was in some way connected to Easter.  Age and wisdom gave me a better context for what it was truly saying.  Or, maybe it’s just that both are two of my all-time favorite blockbusters staring Charlton Heston. Hard to say for sure.
