Baekje was the first culture in the Seoul area to build monumental walls, 30 meters tall or even higher. These earthworks have been damaged in places in the ensuing centuries, but for the most part are not only visible, but still creating boundaries for the residents of Seoul. The walls of Pungnap-toseong separate the neighborhood inside from the busy city streets outside, and the ramparts of Mongchon-toseong were incorporated into a large public park for the 1988 Olympics in Seoul.
