Seoul Baekje Museum: Baekje cooking

IMG_7893This is such a great museum display–rather than just showing us pottery that’s been recovered, the Seoul Baekje Museum demonstrates how that pottery was used in the life of everyday people. Homes in the Baekje kingdom had ovens constructed of clay, with places for boiling pots to be lowered in near the flames. The pot nested inside the boiling pot is a steamer with large holes cut in the base. Ovens had decorative pieces surrounding the firebox access, like this one recovered by the Jungang Institute of Cultural Heritage:IMG_8309
