Roy Fernandez
My name is Roy Fernandez and I’m an Advertising major and Spanish minor at the University of Oregon. During my free time, I enjoy reading, writing, and spending time outdoors. I hope to develop brands and to communicate creative, lasting messages through advertising.
Throughout my education, I was constantly reminded of the dangers of smoking. This knowledge, along with smoking’s stigmatization, made straying from the habit an easy decision for me. However, the introduction of vaping and its growing popularity raised new questions. What is vaping? Is it harmful? What exactly is the difference between smoking and vaping? Then, the passing of the Tobacco 21 bill in Lane County made me reconsider what an acceptable tobacco age limit was. It also made me wonder why vaping was being grouped with tobacco. I knew vaping appealed to a young demographic, so that further sparked my curiosity. I knew there was a difference between smoking and vaping, but what was it? This project gave me the answers I sought.
