Jesus brings Life

In the Gospel of John, God is portrayed as the WORD. In the first stanza of the Gospel, John clearly states that God is the word. He makes reference to the creation when God spoke for the world to be created and with every word he spoke it came to be true and alive. John also states that the word was with God because what he said it came to life. In the beginning of the creation the word of God gave life and likewise John is also hinting that like the creation God’s word through his son Jesus will give life and salvation. In the verse 3-5, John talks about the importance of the WORD and God, stating that everything came to be because of him and that without it nothing came into being. John also tells us that what came to be was life and that life brought light and that light brought brightness which shine in the darkness. Overall John’s point of view is to make us first understand what the word of God was but also the importance of it so we can fully understand. If we can understand that God is the word, then we can understand why Jesus came and what the purpose was.

In the verse 9-12 we understand why John emphasized that God was the word and the word was with God. John tells us that the light is coming to brighten everyone. John says that “he” (Jesus) was in the world, reminding us of the birth of Jesus. Only few knew who Jesus was and John tells us that the world did not know who he was or recognize what he was going to do. Many didn’t believe in him and the purpose of his coming to the world, to the point that they shouted for Jesus to be crucified and be killed instead of the thief. John then tells us that everyone who believes in him and his name received the power to be called children of God. In this part of the passage I believe John is stating that the light that Jesus bring is the word of God the one that will give salvation and life. The importance of the first verses was for us to understand that Jesus was bringing God to each and one of our souls and life because he was bring the word of God, through the preaching he gave. John is telling us that Jesus is the life and that he brings life to the death or the ones in darkness.

John does something very different to the other gospels. He doesn’t tell us about a glorious birth. He also doesn’t tell us how glorious he is though his birth or how great he is. He simply tells us why he’s here and who send him and with that he simply tells us about the power and the importance of Jesus. He doesn’t have to build up from Jesus birth, he simply states why he’s here and that’s enough to understand how important Jesus is and the great power he carries. He also tells us who he’s bringing since God is the word and Jesus is bringing the word of God.
