Matthew & Mark

In Matthew, Jesus is portrayed more of a rule creator as well as a teacher like Moses. He sets forth rules for the people to follow. Where in Mark Jesus is portrayed as a servant of god performing miracles and then being sacrificed on the cross for all others sins. In Mark Jesus forgives the people for all of there sins. Matthew portrays Jesus as the new Moses, Matthew says that by following Jesus you aren’t choosing between Moses and Jesus but instead they are following Moses by following Jesus. The Torah had created strict rules for the Jews to follow. Jesus makes theses rules that were created better to follow, because he provides more reason of why you wouldn’t want to go against them by using the antithesis statements. Jesus interprets the law differently so he is able to get to the root meaning of the law, which allows him to teach the disciples how to live their lives according to the kingdom of god.

Under god’s rule the people who didn’t believe would receive special attention, like when the Pharisees saw Jesus eating with tax collectors and sinners they asked why and he responded that those who are well have no need of a physician but those who are sick. So God would be focused on those that need him and that struggle. Under the Roman Empire it is completely opposite, all of these people would be ignored and those who seem to follow the law perfectly would receive the special attention.
