Eportfolio

Part of your grade for this course will be based on your completion of an eportfolio.  An eportfolio is a web-based portfolio of your work that demonstrates your learning process and your competency in course objectives.  Imagine that at the end of this class, you are going to show parts of this eportfolio to a prospective employer who is interested in how well you can perform the competencies listed below.  How might you demonstrate to them, through your eportfolio, what you can do?  Where appropriate, include references to specific models we discussed in class (Five Practices, Emotional Intelligence, Stages of Team Development, etc.)

For this course, you need to demonstrate progress in the following areas:

1.  Understanding and managing self – What are your Emotional Intelligence strengths and weaknesses?  How frequently do you engage in self-reflection?  How often do you ask others for feedback?  How well do you accept feedback and use it to make changes?

2.  Understanding and working with others – What are your strengths and weaknesses in working with others?  What do your Emotional Intelligence competencies say about your ability to understand others and manage relationships?  What do others say about your ability to work with them?  How effective are you at getting the best out of others in a team situation?  This section needs to focus on YOUR collaboration skills, not an evaluation of how your team did.

3.  Effective Professional Communication (written and oral) – Can you effectively and persuasively present ideas in multiple formats (memos, reports, proposals, presentations, digital media)?

4.  Understanding of effective leadership models – How well do you understand effective leadership in organizations?  Can you demonstrate understanding of the 5 Practices of Leadership model and Emotional Intelligence?

By the end of the term, I, or anyone else, should be able to view your eportfolio and get a sense of who you are as a leader.  What you have learned, what you can do, what your strengths are, what areas you need to work on.  Don’t just SAY something improved – demonstrate how and why it improved.

How you present the material is up to you, but if you tag your blog posts (tags don’t work on pages) appropriately, they can easily become part of your eportfolio.  See “Constructing the Eportfolio” for more specific guidance on how to set up the eportfolio.

Ultimately, the structure is up to you.  This is your space – get creative and use it to show what you can do.
