BA 352

Course Objectives:
This course is meant to get you started on the transition from being a student to being a professional by focusing on the following areas:

  • Personal Development – To increase your self-awareness and develop the personal skills necessary for leading and working with others.
  • Communication – To improve your ability to communicate effectively with others through writing, public speaking, teamwork, interpersonal relations, cross-cultural interactions, and conflict resolution.
  • Professionalism – To increase your professional behaviors and attitudes (respect for others, initiative, responsibility and accountability).
  • Organizational Leadership – To increase your understanding of effective leadership in business organizations.

Course Format:
The course is mostly project-based.  In a project-based course, a “real world” problem is used as a context for students to learn critical thinking and problem solving skills, and acquire knowledge of the essential concepts of the course. Using project-based learning, students acquire life long learning skills, which include the ability to find and use appropriate learning resources.

Classes will generally center around a central question, and include a great deal of activity and discussion on that question.  Since a significant amount of the learning in this course happens in the classroom, students must attend each class, arrive on time, be prepared for discussions by having completed the day’s assignment ahead of time, and actively participate in class and small group discussions.  In addition, each of us must work toward establishing the climate of trust and mutual respect that is essential for a true learning community.
