“The Humble Hound”

Op-Ed Columnist – The Humble Hound – NYTimes.com

This is a nice column on leadership.  Brooks describes an effective leader as someone who is humble, engages in metacognition, is able to argue both sides of a point before deciding, understands his/her own biases, knows that navigating uncertainty is critical and engages in self-reflection.  This is a model that is counter to what we often see in the press and popular media.  The quiet, observing, humble, reflective leader just doesn’t play as well as a dramatic character, but Brooks argues, and I agree, that they are probably more effective in the long run.
