Why Diversity matters

We are engaging in a project for this class related to diversity in LCB.  One question that comes up is “Why does diversity matter?”  We will continue to explore this topic, but a short answer is that it matters for both ethical and practical reasons in organizations.  The LCB’s Diversity Plan states, ”

“We value diversity because we value the fundamental right of each student, faculty and
staff member to work in an environment that allows her/him to attain her/his potential,
free from harassment, and because we recognize that a focus on diversity enhances
excellence in our education and research programs.”

This statement embraces both the ethical and practical motives.

For another look at the practical side, see this editorial from a recent issue of the Register-Guard.
