A glimpse at the life of a student employee.

 

Sydney Wilken, 21, spends an average of 23 hours a week working at the Student Recreation Center to help pay for her education.
Sydney Wilken, 21, supports herself financially. Due to losing her father at a young age, Wilken was forced to mature quickly and assume financial responsibility for herself.
Sydney Wilken, 21, teaches group fitness classes at the Student Recreation Center multiple times a week on top of her busy academic schedule. Wilken teaches a TRX class which is an exercise class that engages several muscles of the body. Here she is demonstrating a single leg lunge, using the TRX bands as support while she completes the movement.
Sydney Wilken, 21, is a Junior at the University of Oregon majoring in Psychology with a minor in Biology. In addition to being a student, Wilken is a certified personal trainer who trains multiple clients, several times a week. She puts all of her efforts into being a trainer because it is something she has a passion for. Wilken states: “I get to help people every day. I get to build their self-confidence, watch them grow and experience all the great benefits of exercise. I get paid to better other people, what other job would you want”.
Sydney Wilken, 21, states: “I love being a personal trainer because I love watching my clients reach their goals and it makes me feel good knowing I was the person that helped get them there”. Wilken helps stretch her clients after an intense training session. She engages fully with her clients helping better themselves both mentally and physically.
