Python Club, Spring Term

Happy Spring (Term), everyone! I apologize for the lateness of this post, but your fearless “teachers” kinda sorta forgot that classes start this week––the IEP’s don’t start until next week, so I’m gonna use that as my excuse––so the room is not reserved and we have done no prep work (unlike the usual hours we devote to thoroughly constructing a meaningful lesson). As such, we will be resuming meetings next Tuesday, April 7, at 2:00 pm in Straub 006, the same as last term, unless something conflicts with those plans, in which case I will let you know, hopefully more than an hour and a half in advance.

As a reminder, we’ll be reviewing up through Selection in Think! and starting up with More About Iteration next week. We recommend that you revisit the materials we’ve covered thus far and bring any questions with you to class.

Good luck with Week 1(/0), and we’ll see you next week!

Hiatus

Happy Week 10, everyone! I hope the crush of work at the end of the term isn’t preventing you entirely from partaking in our (absurdly, unsettlingly, gloriously) nice weather. I myself am withstanding the discomfort of typing on my stomach and my computer’s dislike of sunshine to write this on a blanket in front of my house, because I have no willpower in the face of warmth and ladybugs.

But enough about my sunburn-in-progress! This post has an actual relevant point, namely to inform you that we will not be having a Python Club meeting tomorrow. We figure everyone is busy with other things, including your intrepid instructors, so PC is on hiatus until next term. We will be continuing in spring, and plan to pick up partway through Think!, so if you have not been keeping up, you have break to read through Selection (Chapter 6); we’ll be starting up with More About Iteration (Chapter 7) at the beginning of next term.

Matt and I also plan to include more personal projects in the coming quarter; I’ll be talking about gensim and semantic similarity measurements, and Matt will tell us how he uses pandas. You are encouraged to bring your own projects-in-progress so we can get a better idea of what things Python can do!

We are hoping to have Python Club at the same time and day next term (2:00-2:50 on Tuesdays), but are willing to consider another Doodle poll if there are conflicts. Please let us know if you want to attend but can’t at the current time!

Good luck with the rest of “Winter”, and we hope to see you all next term 🙂
