Hello all!
I am Mason George Kaseeska and I come from Geneva, IL; A suburb outside of the great city of Chicago! As many know, the culture surrounding food in the Midwest is strong, but Chicago definitely wins the gold medal (; One of the many restaurants keeping the tradition of high-quality Chicago-style food is none other than, Portillo’s!
Looking into Portillo’s past:
Portillo’s was founded by Dick Portillo in Villa Park, IL (1963). The establishment started out as a food cart outside of a grocery store, so Dick could run a hose from there to his cart for running water. My father worked his first job here for Mr. Portillo. He said that the owner was very strict, but that was why he was so successful. He had his eye on the bottom-line and understood the marginal differences in each day’s business activities.
The food consists of what Chicago is known for; Chicago-style dogs and Italian beef sandwiches! Lines inside usually are long and take about 10 minutes to go through. The Driv-Thru is another monster, stretching around the building. Everytime I go home to visit the first place we visit is Portillo’s.
Eventually, he was able to open numerous locations!
