Beta Testing

  • Identify three people as testers for your site. They could be someone from this class, a professor, an adviser, a friend, a roommate, a parent, etc.
  • Ask them to review your site paying particular attention to the following:
    • Links – Does every link on the site work? Does it do so appropriately and to the users expectation?
    • Downloads – When you download a file, does it open and display correctly? Does it do so on multiple platforms and in multiple browsers? How long does it take?
    • Platform Issues – Does the site display correctly on multiple browsers and on multiple operating systems?
    • Speed – Do all  pages and content load quickly (in under 10 seconds on a high speed connection)?
    • Design – Are design and layout attractive? Is use of whitespace present and applicable? Does the use of color enhance the design? Do backgrounds and color scheme enhance readability and aesthetic quality of the text and images? Is the use of type effective and appropriate to the message of the portfolio?
    • Content – Does the portfolio demonstrate continuity of work? Does the content demonstrate a range of applicable skills? Is the content of a consistent quality?
  • You may give your reviewers this Principles of Design Cheatsheet as a checklist for their review.
  • Compile their comments as a debugging checklist for yourself. This is for you. There is nothing to turn in.
