Our Purpose
Oregon Saludable seeks to expand COVID-19 testing to underserved Latina/o/x communities across Oregon. Oregon Saludable, in collaboration with county and community partners, will launch over 30 testing sites across multiple Oregon counties and incorporate culturally tailored health interventions with the hope to improve reach, access, and uptake of testing among Latinx communities. Oregon Saludablewill support community partners in implementing and sustaining structures and systems for COVID-19 testing and health promotion activities that can be leveraged for related public health efforts, such as future health prevention campaigns.
Our Approach
We will utilize ‘Promotoras’ culturally-tailored outreach interventions. We believe in using promotoras to help with outreach.
Our Promotoras will provide…
Psychoeducation to increase knowledge about COVID-19 and the benefits of testing. Motivational interviewing (MI) strategies to explore personal, social, and behavioral barriers to testing and discuss available resources to resolve these barriers. Emotional support to address testing-related concerns and anxieties that may dissuade Latinx individuals from getting tested, such as concerns related to the ability to quarantine given multifamily living conditions or to take time off work due to fear of losing their job. Information support and service navigation regarding logistical information about when and where testing will occur, dissemination of accessible information related to what a person can expect related to the testing process, available resources if they test positive, and access available resources.
On-site intervention: Instruction on prevention, frequent testing, getting all family members to get tested. Share health education. Enhance motivation to practice prevention strategies & harm reduction, to quarantine if COVID-19 is dedicated after a test. Connect participants with resources/ service navigation: Food boxes, quarantine funds, legal support.
