One County, Seven Regions

At 90by30, we believe in keeping it local. There is no single, top-down plan to reduce child abuse and neglect in Lane County – instead, there are seven plans, each unique to the region that crafted it. We’ve empowered local community members to make their own decisions about what works for their area.

Led by the volunteers of the Regional Leadership Teams, community members came together to select prevention strategies from a list of vetted, research-based programs proven to protect kids and support families. The result? Some strategies, like Roots of Empathy, rose to the top of the list for every region. All the strategies strengthen one or more of the five protective factors that promote healthy children, families, and communities. But each plan is different, reflecting the needs of the community that created it.

Oregon’s Lane County extends from the Pacific Ocean to the Cascades. It’s a big place: If we were a state, our 4,700 square miles would put us between Rhode Island and Delaware in size. Our nearly 369,000 residents makes Lane the most populous county after the three counties – Washington, Multnomah, and Clackamas – that make up the Portland metro area. From urban areas like Eugene and Springfield to smaller towns like Florence and Junction City to the rural stretches in between, our county has a little of everything Oregon offers.
