Tenure-Track Assistant Professor of Technical Communication School of Literature, Media, and Communication

The School of Literature, Media, and Communication of the Georgia Institute of Technology (Atlanta, GA) seeks to fill a tenure-track position at the rank of assistant professor (entry level) in the area of technical communication, effective August 2015.

Required qualifications: The successful applicant will have a Ph.D. in technical communication or a closely related field; expertise in technical/professional/business communication; a firm theoretical grounding in rhetoric; and facility with the functional application of theory as a foundational basis for research and teaching in technical communication.

Preferred qualifications: Experience outside the academy is desirable and might include work in government, business, nonprofit organizations, the military, and industry, among other venues. Ideal candidates would have experience and/or training in science writing, visual design and communication, data management, big data, or experience architecture.

Research: The successful candidate will be expected to develop a strong program of research and grant application commensurate with work at a major research university. The potential to secure external research funding is strongly desirable.

Teaching: The successful applicant should have experience in (and a commitment to) teaching writing/communication courses including technical/professional/business communication, composition, media studies, visual rhetoric/design, technical narratives, and communicating science and technology to public audiences.
