“Coming to this class is like going to the gym for my dissertation.” — student from Spring 2013 Data Management course
The purpose of this course is to develop an understanding of the requirements for data management and to create a data management plan for a particular research project. Data management is an essential part of the research process, and data management plans have become a requirement for much of grant-funded research. Topics covered include: file management, metadata, intellectual property, digital preservation, and access. This course will review interdisciplinary differences, and assignments will be tailored to the research project of the individual student. In order to be successful, students should have a research project in mind and will complete the course with a data management plan for their project.
