Native American boarding schools have a long, painful, and interesting history. Natives were hopeful that their could be taught the “right” way of life, and some children were forced or taken off to school. From there, Native American cultures, languages, families, and so much more faced a battle against assimilation. This blog will go through the history of the Native American boarding schools in the Pacific Northwest (although these schools spanned the country), how the experiences effect the present, and how Native populations are trying to pick up the pieces from a broken past.
