Everyone knows that Mountain Dew tastes good. We will buy a bottle here, a can there. We will drink it with lunch or just by itself. But Mountain Dew is dynamic; it is more than just a single flavor. It can be compared to fine wine, enjoyed many ways. I will discuss temperature, container, and food pairings that will allow you to get the most out of your Dew.
Temperature
Mountain Dew, like a good micro-brew, needs to be served cold. The cool refreshing Dew we all love quickly becomes a syrupy fruit drink when allowed to warm. Different tastes may like Mountain Dew at different temperatures but I recommend a cool 38 degrees Fahrenheit. Many refrigerators are kept above this temperature so I recommend buying a separate refrigeration device for your Mountain Dew.
Container
Mountain Dew comes in many shapes in sizes: 12oz cans, 16oz bottles, 2-liters, and everything in between. So what do you choose? Most people, if asked this question, would respond with a simple narrow-minded answer praising a single container but I am here to contrast these containers to find the best for each situation. Bottles are convenient, portable, and larger than cans but they also lose their temperature quickly. This makes bottles a good choice when you are on the go or moving around at work.
Cans are fantastic at preserving your drink until you are done enjoying it. The non-transparent aluminum will keep your drink cold and the small opening will keep it carbonated for as much time as most Dewers need. However, since cans cannot be closed they do have great sustainability for those who drink their dew slowly whereas a bottle can hold its carbonation for a much longer period of time. Cans also provide a different flavor. Plastic bottles are known to change the flavor of Mountain Dew whereas an aluminum can does not interfere with the natural flavor of Mountain Dew. This makes a can the ideal container if you do not need the portability or carbonation sustain of a bottle and is best when eating meals or sitting down in one place.
Food Pairing
Wine connoisseurs can tell you which kinds of wines go with which kinds of food and how their flavors interact. With most foods Mountain Dew makes a pleasant companion. The best fitting foods would be a hot soup with a salty flavor, pizza, or perhaps a nice hamburger. This kind of food does not have much sugar and contrasts Mountain Dew very well. Mountain Dew will taste exceptionally refreshing and flavorful while the meal will feel much heartier. With any food flavored with a more salty base you will experience a more refreshing dew all around. The kinds of food to avoid while drinking Mountain Dew include sweet or rich food. This includes candy and many desserts as well as most breakfast food. These types of food will make Mountain Dew taste bitter and will cause the food to taste sweeter and possibly more overpowering. Because of this, Mountain Dew is usually best with lunch or dinner. I encourage you to try drinking Mountain Dew with a variety of meal to figure out which are best with Mountain Dew.
