From Guanajuato to Portland

This is Pedro Martinez. I came across him while hunting through many different stores in Portland to find someone who can tell me of their journey from Mexico, or somewhere further south than that, to Portland. The initial concept of someone traveling thousands of miles to one of the most Northern cities on the west coast seemed absurd to me. Especially considering the other cities in California that have established Latino communities.In this interview, Pedro touches on the quality of work in Guanajauto, his experience of coming to the U.S. and his greatest achievement since arriving here, his family.

From a technical standpoint, I was able to execute a two camera interview, set up and LED lighting kit, record audio on a Marantz through a boom and lavaliere microphones and conduct the interview all on my own. I was able to establish a wide shot and a close-up shot and cut between the two. In editing, I added the images I found from Wikicommons and the photographs that Pedro was gracious enough to share with me.

 

This was one of my prouder instances of proper utilization of my interviewing skills, albeit the quality of the video did not turn out to the caliber I am now capable of, but if you see past that, there are several issues addressed in the short almost four minutes of interview.
