Portfolio
Purpose
The purpose of this blog is to explore the different ways in which, I personally, as well as others who choose to comment on my postings, view art and other human values. Thus far we have explored the basic idea of what constitutes human values, what art is for, whether art should be considered food and the art of personal adornment. Each of these topics has posed new questions that I have yet to truly explore on a personal level. This blog has allowed me to delve deep into the inner workings of some of my own values and explore how I came about believing such things, as well as gaining new values along the way. By compiling all of these works into a portfolio a common thread is created between these seemingly different topics. Finding similarities among these topics will allow me to form big picture values, rather than the more specific ones that arise due to the specificity of the topics. With each post, I am learning something new about a certain subject and myself. This portfolio will help show the evolution of my own thoughts as I build upon these pillars of knowledge to uncover my own convictions. One’s beliefs are never created out of thin air. There is something about our past, gender, ethnicity, childhood as well as many other things that have formed the reasons behind what we believe to be true. It is rare to be able to truly dissect one’s values because we rarely put them down on paper but by creating this portfolio I hope to uncover the more in-depth background to my own values.
Objectives
- Consider culturally based versus universally based theories of art.
- Examine the political, regional, economic, technological religious, ethnic, gender, and generational influences that shape conceptions of art.
- Consider gender, race, and ethnicity in relation to representation in art.
- Examine contemporary and historical cross-cultural examples of art.
Primary Audience
When I write these blogs, I truly am writing them for myself at first. The rough draft is always a stream of incoherent thoughts that I fine tune. It is refreshing to let one’s mind wander until it finally finds a stable thought to build off of. Once that stable thought is found, I write for my peers in AAD 250 as well as anyone who stumbles upon my blog because it is public.
