Since the rise of television in the late 1940s, a majority of families in America have welcomed technology with open arms into their homes. From cable TV to the internet, to fun app games and various social media platforms, children are constantly being exposed to different forms of media in today’s digital age.
Studies have shown that kids’ technology addiction is currently a nationwide issue. According to the Kaiser Foundation study, the average 8- to 10-year-old spends nearly eight hours a day with a variety of different digital devices. Child obesity, inadequate sleeping patterns, and challenges with social interactions can result as consequences if a child spends an excessive amount of time on technology. On the other hand, some parents, educators, and doctors believe that exploring technology is important for a child’s development.
While today’s digital era continues to expand, managing a child’s relationship with technology will remain a controversial issue, as well as a constant challenge.
